The use of Telehealth to conduct therapy appointments has become increasingly popular (and necessary, in light of the pandemic). Telehealth is especially beneficial when clients need to relocate to a different state due to a job change or a family event. Depending on the state of relocation, there may be state legislation that can help with continuity of care when a client moves across state lines. The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) has been in the works since 2011, and was formally created by the “powers that be” (i.e., the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB); https://psypact.site-ym.com/page/History).PSYPACT verifies that all psychologists who apply for the authority to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology meet the standards of education and rigor of training designated by ASPPB and APA. Once approved, a psychologist is able to practice in other states that have enacted PSYPACT Legislation. Check out the PSYPACT Map to see which states have enacted PSYPACT legislation.Dr. Leavell is proud to participate in the practice of PSYPACT Teletherapy services across state lines, credentialed with the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) granted by the PSYPACT Commission. Dr. Leavell is also licensed as a psychologist to practice Teletherapy in the state of Florida. (Note: The Florida Department of Health requires that Dr. Leavell post this link regarding Telehealth information in the state of Florida: https://flhealthsource.gov/telehealth)Disclaimer: Not all therapists with Grapevine Psychology have jurisdiction under PSYPACT, and it is generally recommended that individuals seek therapy services with someone in their home state. Thank you for understanding that the provision of therapy services across state lines is considered on a case-by-case basis.References:PSYPACT. (n.d.)
